Michelle Malkin unserious about the War (UPDATED)

On October 9, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

See below for updates

I like a lot of what Michelle Malkin writes, but this comment about the 2006 election is shocking:

I think I’m just going to sit it out. As if it were possible, the White House has succeeded in demoralizing the base even further with this latest bungle. And it has no one to blame–not Democrats, not the media, not a far-Left cabal–but itself.

Goodbye Saigon

So she’s ready to let the Unhinged folk rush out unopposed to the polls to take over the Congress? Maybe ‘shocking’ is the wrong word, because ‘shameful’ may be closer to the target. How could anyone who so clearly understands the threat of Islamofascism, or for that matter the Korean Missile Crisis, allow the Democrats such a win? How can any of us allow history to repeat itself?

Updated: She appears to have changed her mind, which is great to see:

***scroll for updates…hasty declarations…

Update: 10/1012:57am. Sigh. The perils of blogging while traveling. It looks like Mickey was wrong– and I was wrong to pull out a premature I-told-you-so on the pocket veto claim. And this one item won’t be a reason for sitting out the election. Xrlq lays into me. Point taken, though nothing he says rebuts my argument that many other more immediate immigration enforcement steps could and should have been taken ahead of this fence gesture. Ed Morrissey has more on how the actual signing is being delayed until closer to election time.

Which is the problem with the GOP’s immigration strategy–always putting politics above actual enforcement.***

I still disagree with that last paragraph, because I think most of the pro-clemency Republicans take that position to encourage economic growth, but that’s a debate for another day.

The Korean Missile Crisis

On October 9, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

It occurs to me that the last time some state acquired nukes and missiles that can reach the US triggered the Cuban Missile Crisis.

So I really do think this test changes things.

You maniacs!

On October 9, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

You finally, really did it. You maniacs! You blew it up!

I really began to doubt whether the DPRK would conduct a nuclear test, but they’ve done it. I was beginning to think that they wouldn’t cross the line from insanely aggressive talk against the US, to an actual, threatening action against the US.

Because that’s the only country this is aimed at. My understanding is that traditional artillery already serves as a credible deterrent against Seoul, so nothing more is needed to secure the border. Nukes and long range missiles capable of reaching Honolulu and Seattle only have one country targetted.

Classy Lo Duca?

On October 8, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

As LoDuca popped another bottle of champagne, he was slightly more eloquent in the irony of celebrating the win in the visiting clubhouse at Dodger Stadium. “F— the Dodgers,” he said to one of the clubhouse managers as he opened the bottle.

So says Arash Markazi anyway. How lovely an attitude that is, especially compared with Green’s ability to note the occasion without being so nasty:

“The irony is crazy to be celebrating in the visiting locker room,” said Green. “I came here for this reason. I’m not getting any older.”

He is getting older, and that’s why I think his fans in LA should be happy for him, anyway.

Moving On

On October 7, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Now let’s see, how to root for… No Yankees? I’m not used to the Dodgers outlasting them, if only by a few hours, so that throws me off. Let’s say Padres over Cardinals, A’s over Tigers, Mets over Padres, and Mets over A’s.

Mets 9, Dodgers 5

On October 7, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

As I write this, it’s a 1-2 count with two outs on the potential final batter of the Dodgers’ season. Now it’s 2-2 with a runner on first to Ramon Martinez. Two foul balls keep the season alive.

My thoughts now turn to the positive: this is a young team. Several of these key players came up during the season to cover injuries to players like Mueller, Kent, Garciaparra, and Gagné. Others are older, like Saito, but still surprises.

This team has talent. Now it has postseason experience. Game over, as Shawn Green (who didn’t kill the Dodgers nearly as much as Paul Lo Duca, who appeared to be playing angry this series, and got BIG hits tonight).

Anyway, Some free agents like Garicaparra and Maddux may leave, but Kent who hit brilliantly is locked in, and the young guys will be back. This team has an upside next year.

The E-Team

On October 7, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Ten years ago a crack treant commando unit was sent to prison by a wizard for a theft they didn’t commit. These treants promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the forest underground. Today, still wanted by the wizard, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem and no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the E-Team.

Odd Spam

On October 7, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

I’m used to seeing spam that apparently copies various novels, stories, and articles, but the last few days it’s been weird. I keep seeing spams that are copying from Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series. Well I’ve read that, this site is named in part for it, and every hostname of every computer I’ve ever owned has been named for it.

So that’s weird.

What no Software?

On October 6, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

If I’ve gotten quiet about software development, it’s because I’ve been focused on a single project, despite being pulled away for one day to build the new qGo release.

I’ll surely mention it here when it’s done.

Dodgers 1, Mets 4

On October 5, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

I don’t want to say or hear another word about yesterday. On to tonight. Sure, there was a bad play tonight, where Furcal failed to charge a ground ball, which wrecked a would-be inning-ending double play, and instead allowed two more runs to score in the inning. But two runs weren’t the difference tonight, so that’s not so bad.

You just have to credit the Mets’ pitching I think. Glavine got it done.
