It is done. ZDoom is ported to the Mac. Without sound, yes, yes, minor detail, but everything’s easy compared with byteswapping.
ZDoom on Intel Mac works. My port is functioning, albeit without sound. Of course, I don’t HAVE an Intel Mac, so it took an interested observer to test for me on IRC.
But, this means truly all I have left to do is byteswap, add sound, and port the PrBoom launcher framework over, and the ZDoom port will be as polished as the PrBoom one is.
Victory is mine for the taking.
As if the game needed more excitement: Padres got a run in the 10th, though it might have been more if not for Kenny Lofton swatting a home run back in with a well-timed jump.
Game over again, right? Lightning can’t strike twice, can it? Well, Lofton walked, and then with the unstoppable Jeff Kent on deck, Nomar Garciaparra ended it by sending the 3-1 pitch over the left field wall.
If this knocks all the wind out of San Diego, and propels the Dodgers onward, I would not be surprised.
Now that’s taking first place the hard way.
And here I thought I was going to bed… computer off, winding down. Kent leads off the 9th with a home run to cut the Padres lead to 3 (Saito gave up 3 in the top half). I then laughed “Oh, back to back to back would be nice, though that wouldn’t win it. It wouldn’t even tie it.”
So the second homer came. Wow, that’s exciting. So Bruce Bochy quits fooling around and brings in Trevor Hoffman, who didn’t start the inning because it was a four-run lead. “OK, now it’s over,” I figured.
Then another homer came. Wow, I laughed about it, but it actually happened. You lose this game, though, and it’s even more heartbreaking.
Then it happened. Kent had already homered, then Drew, then Martin. But now Marlon Anderson hit the fourth consecutive home run, tying the game. This was only the fourth time ever that there were four consecutive home runs, and the first time in 42 years.
I’m turning the computer back off right now again, not to turn it back on unless something even MORE historic than this happens. I just turned it back on now to capture the thrill of this moment.
Oh, that was the first blown save by Hoffman against the Dodgers since 2001. That’s been a painful stretch, but the end sure was sweet.
Highs and lows of a whole season in this game. Well, it’s not over yet technically, but Garciaparra just struck out to end the 8th, and that means it’s going to be Trevor Hoffmann in the bottom half of the 9th, so the game’s as good as over.
CEGUI‘s Xcode project just doesn’t work. And I can’t be bothered to try to keep up with something at version 0.5.
It’s a shame that Secret Maryo Chronicles uses such an immature library.
A grad student spills the beans on the whole funding-driven system.
Forgot it was a day game today, and only caught the ninth inning. What a disappointment. Second place.
Via Red State I ran into this Constitution Course by the Defense Department. Nice imagery
Since this Dodgers game was a bust, I decided to mess around with some more software porting. My previous ports and updated builds (qGo, PrBoom, FakeNES, and Slade) are in maintenance mode at the moment, so I’m looking at two new ones.
Well, a new one and an old one. I’ve previously looked at porting Secret Maryo Chronicles, but quit because CEGUI wasn’t cooperating in terms of making a working universal build. But, today I saw an announcement of a new version, so I dropped by their forum and put in a call for help on that.
The new port attempt is ZDoom. But Neil, you may ask, what’s a Doom purist like you porting ZDoom for? My answer: Because it’s there. And I might be interested in writing my own Doom-based game. If ZDoom saves me the trouble of integrating lua scripting into PrBoom, then it’d be worth it. Besides, there are apparently some nice map sets out there for ZDoom.
So, SMC is still stalled, but ZDoom is progressing alright. I just need to write some code to replace FMOD in there, and then add a million and one byteswaps to the ZDoom code I’m assuming.
