Thanks to those three close losses, two by one point, I’d fallen to 2-6 in Red State Fantasy Football. I’ve now won thre in row, and today I picked up 32 points from Tony Romo and Marion Barber III as Romo threw 5 touchdowns, two to Barber. Excellent start for making it four in a row and bringing my record even.
Well, my brother’s off from school this weekend, so I spent more time talking to him about numerous things, than thinking about anything new. Turns out I may chug longer at Star Wars: Battlefront II than he will. Of course, he’s going to be playing two Final Fantasy games during this break and his winter break, so there’s a reason for that.
First place!
What an odd game. Kobe scored 20 in the first quarter, but then foul trouble, fatigue, and a better team held him to 20 in the next three quarters after that. The team cracked 100 points despite only 37% shooting, making up for that by hitting 31 of 46 free throws.
Bynum hit some foul trouble early, too, but Kwame Brown made up for it with possibly his best game of the year: 10 points, 14 rebounds, and a block. We’ll take it, especially since Mihm’s out.
Drew may be a free agent, Maddux and the Dodgers may be stalling in talks, but at least Nomar has signed a two-year deal with the Dodgers.
After that home run he hit against the Padres to win the four consecutive home run game, I’m glad to see him back. It was a shame Steve Finley couldn’t stay after he slew the Giants a few years back, after all.
Talk about defense. Headlining the effort: Andrew Bynum. He fouled out, taking him one DQ closer to his mentor, career leader in foulouts Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He also chipped in with 12 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks, and countless altered shots.
Big game next. 7-3 Lakers vs 6-2 Clippers. The battle of LA and the Pacific Division. Should be fun.
Were the Lakers rusty after a long layoff? You bet, but fortunately they were playing a bad team. Kobe couldn’t come close to repeating his 81-point night he had in his last game against Toronto, but I’m sure he’ll take the win.
The defense is still sloppy, but it’s early, and this team is just deeper than last year’s version, even with the loss of Chris Mihm for the year.
Am I bothered very much by the unfortunate failure of the Republican House membership to elect Pence and Shadegg their leaders? Not really.
It’s not the end of the world, and it’s not just a holdover of the same leadership. Hastert is gone, and I’m content to sit back and see what Boehner can do on his own.
Besides, until we nominate a successor to President Bush, he’ll suck all the air out of the Republican room anyway.
How could I forget to comment here? I finally got E-Team 1.1.0 out the door. My original plan was to ship it when T-Engine 3.0.0 Alpha 11 went out, but getting the improved dungeon generation done took longer than I expected.
As it stands even, 1.1 doesn’t have the larger levels I’d hoped for. Those will have to wait for 1.2. The change list is huge though. It should be a much better game than 1.0 was.
Not many games of my brother’s that I try turn out to be ones that I play all that long. Star Ocean: ‘Til the End of Time was one. The Gamecube Zelda game was another. The Nintendo 64 Smash Brothers and Starfox games also count I suppose. Oh yes, and there’s the little matter of Final Fantasy V.
I’ve tried plenty more though. Right now I’m trying Star Wars: Battlefront II. I almost quit once thanks to your teammates being worthless in the game as anything but distractions for the enemy. We’ll see how long I last this time.
Reportedly, the San Francisco 49ers are looking to move from San Francisco to Santa Clara. That’s not a big deal.
What is a big deal is that according to the ESPN program Pardon The Interruption, Senator Feinstein intends to bring a bill up in the US Senate to prohibit the 49ers from keeping their team name after such a move.
Has the Senator forgotten that she represents California now, not just San Francisco? Disgusting.
Let me point out one more fact. The team name ’49ers’ refers of course to the California gold rush of 1849. Last I checked, Sutter’s Mill was not in San Francisco. So if any city deserves the name, it should be one in El Dorado County, not San Francisco County!
