Bad sign for me?

On December 27, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

When Frank Deford seems to agree with me on NBA fights and has to rely on a charge of racism to get there, I will admit it shakes a little bit my confidence in my position.

Well, on the other hand, maybe it shouldn’t. It’s the press, not the public, that I’m criticizing. And if there’s one thing we know about the mainstream press, it’s that they’re frequently mainstream Democrats. And if there’s one thing we know about mainstream Democrats, is that they often do their best to draw and sharpen ‘race’ lines in a misguided attempt at equality. They’re as ‘race’ conscious as they are ‘class’ conscious.

So maybe Deford has a point, if only about his own profession.

Lakers 85, Heat 101

On December 25, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Defense? What defense? Add in the fact that the Lakers didn’t get hot enough to make up for the lack of defense (Kobe dind’t shoot well againts Wade), and that’s that.

Oh, well, I missed the first half anyway watching Tenchi Muyo OVA 3 all the way through. Good stuff.

Charity Press Bias

On December 24, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

So, a stupid minority owner of the Bobcats attempts to break league rules by donating his shares, announces it like a jerk without checking first, and embarasses both his team and the league by making them block the transaction.

How does the AP report it? With words like “Grinch” applied to the Chairman of the Bobcats, because he had to do his job and honor contractual obligations. No mention of “idiot” applied to the minority owner. No, the AP sits squarely on one side of this matter.

It’s too bad this wasn’t Reuters, they of their “One man’s Grinch is another man’s Sally Who” policy.

Dragged Back In

On December 23, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

My brother has dragged me back into Star Wars Battlefront II. It turns out the Capture the Flag stuff isn’t bad. Plus it might give me enough medals to get enough boosts to play through the plot.

Not that I’ve quit FFXII, oh no. I’m just playing that game pretty thoroughly, and what I’m doing right now (gathering loot from every map in the game I can access, now that I have the Thief Cuffs) is pretty dull. So having two games adds variety and interest.

A Good Night for the Lakers

On December 23, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Last night the Spurs lost, the Suns lost (ending a massive win streak), and the Jazz lost. Only the Mavericks won to pull into a tie with San Antonio as everyone else ahead of LA dropped a game. Even without Lamar Odom the Lakers have the same win percentage as the East-leading Pistons, and are within two games of the West leaders.

Lakers 99, Nets 95

On December 22, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Idiots. No, not the Lakers. KCAL. KCAL tape delayed this game unfortunately, and they really messed up bad at the end. Instead of showing the final possessions of the game, they re-ran the previous possesions from before New Jersey’s final time out, complete with Stu Lantz’s commentary from before the play.

So I don’t know what the Laker defense looked like in the big possession when the Lakers were up three and New Jersey had the ball with 14 seconds left. KCAL never showed it.

Idiots.

Lakers 111, Timberwolves 94

How about that bench, coming in with energy in the back-to-back to bury poor Kevin Garnett and the Timberwolves!

Lakers 89, Bulls 94

The Bulls shot 50% exactly. Can the defense without Odom really stay this bad? Come on….

Stevens’s Law of 2008

On December 19, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

As a discussion of John McCain goes on, the probability tends to one that a die-hard McCainiac will, in response to an attack on his guy, change the subject bringing up Mitt Romney.

As a discussion of Mitt Romney goes on, the probability tends to one that a die-hard Mittster will, in response to an attack on his guy, change the subject bringing up John McCain.

In both cases, it’s a sign that the die-hard fan has probably lost the argument.

Wizards 147, Lakers 141 (OT)

No defense tonight. Still missing Lamar Odom. Some exciting offense though. Kobe and Gilbert Arenas were unstoppable.
