Before the election I signed up Rep. Mary Bono’s webpage to put up a yard sign. Now I’m on a mailing list for her, and today got something veeeeery iiiiinteresting:
Dear Neil,
Join us for a round of golf at Porcupine Creek to benefit the Rudy Giuliani Exploratory Committee.
Porcupine Creek Golf Course | Rudolf Giuliani Golf Tournament, Tuesday, January 30
I’m assuming that this is referring to the former mayor of New York City, notwithstanding the typo. That tells me the RMSPers know what they have in Giuliani: a liberal more in the mold of Linc Chafee than Rick Santorum.
Will a conservative PLEASE run in California CD45? And in the Presidential race for that matter?
Back on track at least. The defense still isn’t there consistently (the score was 61-57 LA at the half), but we don’t expect that until Odom and Brown return.
That shot on #4 went with the loss to the Hornets, but right now the Lakers are still the solid #5, with an excellent chance at home court first round whether by taking #4 or by passing a weak division winner Utah, and starting at home as the #5.
Question for the day I picked up on another website:
Why is it that illegal alien fraudsters have an easier time moving money than honest American poker players?
Completely forgot to check if there was a game on yesterday. Good thing. Come Back Lamar Odom!
It’s been a big week in the online poker world. Neteller, the leading money transfer service, had two of its founders arrested in the United States, and the company has, for US customers, since shut down transfers to and from online cardrooms.
These are likely just the latest consequences of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, following the closing of Party Poker and select other online cardrooms to US players. That act is the one that we’ve been told was responsible for the Republican defeat in 2006. Supposedly it was the “social conservatives” who “betrayed real Republican values” by passing this bill, and in the process doomed the party because it sent “real small-government folk” to the Democrats in droves.
Where are those Grand Libertine Democrats for you now, guys? Weren’t they supposed to be free of that Evil Theocratic influence, and be stopping all this? Or do Robertson and Dobson control Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, too?
What are the bills pending in the House and Senate to repeal the UIGEA? And when are they scheduled to get floor votes? Since you guys said the Republicans lost because of this bill because the Democrats were the real libertarians on this, right?
So let’s hear it. Rub it in how the Democrats are acting swiftly on this issue, capitalizing on and solidifying that new vast base for them. Let’s hear about how the pro-poker Presidential ticket is gaining volunteers and cash quickly. That, or admit you were wrong. Either way, I’ll be satisfied.
Outrebounded, outhustled. Second half of a back to back against arguably the currently best team in the league? No thank you.
Game was so good, I forgot to post. The Lakers notched another win against a top team. They’ve now beaten Utah, San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix, and Houston this year all at least once. Good stuff.
Kobe got his, Tony Parker got his, but Kobe got his later, while Parker was slowed down by Phil Jackson adjustments, and that’s what counted.
Dallas game starts in 5 minutes. Tough back to back. A win tonight though pulls the Lakers into a tie with San Antonio for the #4 seed and conference third-best record, as SA is 27-13 and the Lakers are 26-13. Yay tiebreakers.
Neteller is no longer doing poker and gambling site transactions for US Customers. Good job US laws; you’ve killed a company, apparently, as everyone seems to believe the stock is going to tank now.
It should be interesting to see who profits from this. Or if it’ll even be possible. I’ve seen it suggested that Western Union will win big, as sending money that way will become the leading way to move online poker money, but we’ll see.
I’m glad I have no money in there right now though. I always used Neteller.
Oops, I completely forgot to check if there was a game. Looks like I missed an exciting overtime clash between Kobe (25 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 TO) and Dwyane (35 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 4 TO).
Kobe just flat-out got more help from his teammates. Seven Lakers, including all five starters, scored in double figures. 25 points from Brian Cook on 16 shots? Wow. The team shooting 56% from three point range helps, too.
I guess until the Lakers get Odom back, and Bynum really clicking, they’ll be one of those teams that’s only entirely dangerous when they’re hitting outside. Better than nothing.
Well I goofed. I’ve been ignoring Chris Webber and the dismantling of the Sixers, only to find out that the Lakers are somehow in the running to acquire Webber. What, did he get bought out by Philadelphia or something?
The Lakers sure could use the extra depth up front with Mihm out for the year plus Odom and Brown out for a few more weeks, so I wouldn’t mind seeing him come. As long as he’s ready to be a roleplayer, coming off of the bench once Odom returns, that is.
