Space War!

On September 28, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Nobody’s blowing up satellites yet, but apparently the Chicoms are taking the next step in anti-satellite surveillance. For years enemies of the US have tried to time major satellite orbits and schedule actions to avoid their watch, but now DefenseNews.com says China’s shooting lasers at them. The lasers are not to destroy them, since that’d require way too much energy to get through the air and too much focus to stay coherent through the distance. Instead, the idea is to disrupt the optics and blind us temporarily.

Ever since seeing Bubblegum Crisis, I love reading about land-space and space-land lasers, so I find this whole thing exciting.

Dodgers 19, Rockies 11

On September 28, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

This game wasn’t televised, unfortunately. That’s a lot of runs.

Now we just need the Nationals to beat the Phillies, and the Diamondbacks to take care of the Padres, and we’ll be pretty much set.

Dodgers 6, Rockies 4

On September 27, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Well, the Padres lost to the Cardinals, and the Dodgers won. So that cuts the NL West gap to one game, but the rest of the races won’t be known until after the Phillies and Astros get out of their extra innings games.

What a finish.

Wow

On September 27, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

As of now, on the SI scoreboard: Pirates and Astros tied in the 10th, Nationals and Phillies tied going into the 10th, Padres and Cardinals tied in the 8th, and the Dodgers and Rockies tied…

Hold up, as I write this, a bad throw turns a double play into a run, and the Dodgers now lead 5-4 in the 7th. Still an exciting night for baseball, though!

Humidor?

As I wind down for bed, it’s looking good. Washington beats Philadelpha 4-3, the Dodgers are ahead in Colorado 11-1, and the Cards are down 5-6 to the Padres but have two on and nobody out in the bottom of the 8th.

I agree with Oak Leaf

I agree with Oak Leaf, the anonymous Lieutenant Colonel over at Polipundit. $1.50/gallon gas is outrageous! We DO need Congressional hearings IMMEDIATELY!

Astros 5, Phillies 4

On September 25, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

The idle Dodgers have pulled back into a tie for the NL Wild card thanks to the Astros’ defeat of the Phillies in their makeup game.

Unfortunately the Dodgers also fell a full 2 back of the Padres when the Cardinals fell 6-5 to the San Diego team.

Well, the Wild Card is still the playoffs, right?

Turning on Pence

On September 25, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

For some time, I’ve been one of those people dreaming of Mike Pence being the Republican party’s nominee for President in 2008. Today he’s been downgraded in my view, though, as I’ve found out he’s wobbly on trade. He wants to tax Americans in an attempt to punish unfree countries.

I still support his immigration plan, and probably still figure him to be in the top half of members of the House, but he’s not my top choice for President anymore.

Diamondbacks 1, Dodgers 5

On September 24, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

And the Dodgers are still alive. No, Losing this one wouldn’t have ended it, but it would have put the Dodgers 2.5 back of San Diego and 1.5 back of Philadelphia, with 6 to go for LA and SD and 7 go to for Phila.

Kuo gave the Dodgers a (recently) rare good start from a starting pitcher, and they almost wasted it. But, a walkoff grand slam by Nomar took care of business.

I hope he makes a habit of these hits.

Diamondbacks 9, Dodgers 3

It’s choke city in the NL west. The Dodgers now hold no playoff position. Ugh.

Nima Jooyandeh facts.
