Hooray! Two new provisional comics on the list: Goblins, a serious plot with some humor added, and Dungeons & Denizens, which is all comedy.
I may drop Goblins if it doesn’t keep trying to get ever more depressing, though.
After yesterday’s morning walk, I’m skipping it today, and perhaps every day until I get some warmer things to wear in these early mornings. Too cold!
Sweet, Sweet revenge. It sure helps getting back the Jazz for that close loss when you have Kobe. 52 points, a perfect third quarter (no misses from the field or free throw line on the way to I think it was 31 points), and a big win. Woohoo.
Bynum watch: Bynum’s no longer starting, as expected, but Kwame Brown only managed 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists to Andrews 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Does the zone work? Sometimes. People always say it’s so weak, but the Lakers made it look good, taking a lot of the offered outside shots, but not hitting them.
Good comeback try at the end, but the team of course, given how things went all night, came one three pointer short when they had a chance to tie it with 16 seconds left.
Bynum watch: Even though Phil is pushing for the first team to get Andrew the ball more, tonight he got one shot attempt which he made, plus one of two three throws he hit for three total points. That stinks. It’s be a shame if he loses his starting role because of his teammates.
Well, well, well. After starting the year off 2-6, I’ve now rattled off four straight wins to get even and into seventh place of twelve. And in fact, if a certain scenario plays out this week, I get fourth place which is apparently the bottom playoff spot:
If I win over #8 (also 6-6), #1 defeats #6 (also 6-6), #5 (also 6-6) loses or I outscore #5 by 25 points, and #3 (7-5 but with fewer total points than my team) is defeated by #9 (also 6-6, and outscored #3 on the year too), then I’m in.
I’m unlikely to hop over #4 (also 6-6) because this week he’s against #12 (1-11). So I have to see 3, 5, and 6 knocked off to hop over them. Hopefully Colston will be back for New Orleans…
A game of two parts last night, but fortunately for the Lakers their good half was the second half, and the bad quarter was the first.
What was nice about this game was the balanced attack. Odom, Walton, Parker, Bryant, Brown, and Farmar all cracked double figures in scoring, and Kobe’s 10 assists showed that after the sloppy, disorganized first quarter, he was ready to be the playmaker.
Bynum watch: 3 points, 3 blocks, 2 assists, 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. Again four fouls though. He’s getting whistled like a rookie, thanks to his getting virtually no time last year.
It also doesn’t help Andrew’s minutes that Kwame Brown is looking better again. I like the way he blocks shots: softly, so that his teammates can grab the ball and run with it.
The Pacific Division of the NBA is still the Lakers’, courtesy of the Clippers losing twice more since the Lakers beat them. So the 8-4 Lakers remain on top, followed by the 7-5 Kings, the 6-5 Clippers, the 6-6 Suns, and the 6-8 Blazers.
Unless the Lakers go on a good winning streak, or 12-1 Utah or 10-3 San Antonio go on losing streaks, it appears that the #3 seed will be theirs a while.
Bad sign for the Lake show though: 7-1 at home, 1-3 on the road. The schedule balances out in the end, so…
For some reason I pulled Soul Calibur II out this morning. I suppose it was a good buy, since now I’m once again trying to get Talim through the Survival mode. Of course, my two attempt this morning only made it to 10 or 11 victories each, and the goal is either 50 or 100, so I have a long way to go.
Eminently winnable game, but the Lakers threw it away late with turnovers and given up offensive rebounds. Some missed free throws hurt, too.
I’m disgusted, but of course this team’s been this sloppy all year. They’ve just gotten away with it against teams less prepared than Jerry Sloan’s.
Via James Taranto, we find that a major NATO summit will be held in Riga, Lativa next week. Latvia, of course, was in the Soviet Union and borders Russia.
Simply Amazing.
