One down…

…Fifteen to go for the Lakers’ next title.

Of course everyone’s going to be talking about Pau Gasol and his tremendous game. Something like 36 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists will do that. Or Kobe’s 15plus in the fourth to kill the Denver rally will do that.

But I think Allen Iverson failed his team today. When Kobe drew yet another foul to really kill the rally, he went and got himself thrown out of the game, which gave the Lakers two free points and truly sealed it. What a crybaby loser.

Here’s a story that won’t get much attention

Shanghai stocks collapse, common people bear brunt *ahead* of Olympics, despite analysts believing the government would prop things up to keep everything stable until after all the goose stepping and celebrating of the Han race’s superiority was done.

I guess it’s still true that when the United States sneezes, the whole world gets a cold.

Welcome to the NBA Playoffs

On April 19, 2008, in General, by Neil Stevens

Spurs come back and beat the Suns in 2OT. Incredible. Finley hits a gamettying three at the end of regulation. Duncan hits a game-tying three at the end of overtime. Nash hits as game tying three at the end of double overtime.

But there they were, game tied, final seconds of 2OT, Manu Ginobili has the ball, but nobody stops him. He goes right on in and gets a layoup. Spurs up two, less than two seconds left, with no time outs for the Suns. Game over.

Ginobili going inside, the game on the line, that’s supposed to be the moment when Shaq’s shot blocking was going to be worth giving up Shawn Marion.

Bad trade, Steve Kerr. Bad trade.

Some of their users are having problems for last few days when connecting to my XMPP MUC. I dropped Google a mail and they’re right on it.

I hate Drupal

On April 16, 2008, in General, by Neil Stevens

I’m trying to port a module from Drupal 4 to 6 right now, and I’m telling you, Drupal development is managed by people who don’t know what they’re doing. Seriously. Is it even managed? Who knows?

What kind of people completely change the behavior of a function and its arguments while leaving the name the same? The Drupal people, that’s who.

What kind of people breaks all sorts of compatibility from version to version, leaving the function names the same all the time, but incompletely document the necessary changes? Yup.

I really hate Drupal now. Going through two version updates (4 to 5, 5 to 6) for this one piddly little module is killing me.

And it’s not as though this is an infrequent kind of update to do. Heck no. When TMR launched with m help, the Drupal people were on version 4. Well soon they’ll be on version 7. Then 8, and 9, and 10… And it’s not like they’re shy about breaking modules within versions either. There are now update guides from 6.0 to 6.2, too.

If you value stability, Drupal will eat your children.

First Place!

The Dodgers may be having a rocky start, but at least the Lakers… have somehow… taken the Western Conference. Was it always possible to do this after Shaq left and that Finals team was dismantled? Sure. But seeing it actually happen is wonderful and hard to believe.

And thus my Wii goes out for repair

On April 14, 2008, in General, by Neil Stevens

My Wii’s original owner apparently used it in a smoky environment, because I’ve been having trouble reading the Super Smash Brothers: Brawl disc since it was new. Nintendo is doing free cleaning though, so in the system goes!

I waited a bit to do this though because I wanted to PLAY the game at least a while first, heh.

Great tweak for the terminal on Mac OS

On April 12, 2008, in General, by Neil Stevens

Two lines I added to my .bashrc today:

alias xargs0='xargs -0'

function find0 { find $@ -print0; }

-print0 on find and -0 on xargs aren’t usually important on your typical unix setup, but on a Mac you have spaces everywhere in file names, so these options are used too often to go without conveniences for them.

I can’t believe I didn’t create these aliases before today.

That’s Just Not Accurate, Senator

On April 9, 2008, in General, by Neil Stevens

This video attempts to highlight a lie of Senator Obama’s about Senator McCain, but it just doesn’t go far enough in explaining what the lie is, as Erick Erickson has now addressed on the front page of Red State.

Here’s an expanded version I made last night.
