Debian CVS Attacked

On July 13, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Someone broke into Debian’s CVS machine. Now sure, Debian’s the one OS most likely actually to tell the world when its servers get attacked, but also Debian’s is the one whose project servers are the most exposed to the world to begin with.

I’m not sure what this says about the OS, but I think it’s likely to be bad.

Hooray for Missile Defense

Got SCUDs? No problem! THAAD has you covered! Says the Las Cruces Sun-News via Robert A. Hahn:

The pre-dawn art show was the result of the third of five tests planned at White Sands Missile Range to determine the effectiveness of THAAD — Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile. And military officials said the test went better than they could have hoped.

“This was phenomenal,” said U.S. Army Col. Charles Driessnack, the project manager for the Missile Defense Agency’s THAAD program. “It performed as expected.”

The test demonstrated the THAAD’s ability to “completely destroy that warhead so that no chemical or nuclear residue would contaminate areas” below the explosion, Driessnack said.

I don’t think it’s 1991 anymore, Toto.

Checking in on the Dodgers

On July 13, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

The Mets are being predicted to run away with with the NL, but Sporting News picked the Dodgers to be the team the loses to them in the NLCS. Of course, that was printed before Gagné was out for the season…

Still, the Dodgers could go out and acquire a reliever, I hope, assuming that they don’t put all their eggs in Takashi Saito’s basket. They’d better hurry though; it looks like the NL West is starting to separate. The Dodgers are alone in second, two games behind San Diego, a game and a half out of third.

Big War?

On July 13, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Shooting war between the two nuclear powers of the Middle-east? There are those who are hoping that all this will get resolved, and I understand that, but I’m hoping this is just a rumor.

NO

Apparently the US has now vetoed a resolution calling for Israel to pull out of Gaza. The EU, of course, is worthless on this matter according to Fox:

“The European Union is greatly concerned about the disproportionate use of force by Israel in Lebanon in response to attacks by Hezbollah on Israel,” according to a statement issued by Finland, which holds the EU’s rotating presidency. “The presidency deplores the loss of civilian lives and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. The imposition of an air and sea blockade on Lebanon cannot be justified.”

As I read this, the EU would only allow Israel to respond ‘proportionately’ which would mean what, kidnapping two terrorists? What a joke.

According to MSNBC via California Yankee, Ambassador Bolton is much more sensible:

Nonetheless, U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said it was still unacceptable because it had been overtaken by events in the region – including the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah militants on Wednesday – and was “unbalanced.”

“It placed demands on one side in the Middle East conflict but not the other,” Bolton said. “This draft resolution would have exacerbated tensions in the region.”

And of course, he can only speak for President Bush, so good for both of them!

Big War Fast?

On July 13, 2006, in General, by Neil Stevens

Hezbollah may move the Israeli hostages to Iran and thus make this a very big war, very fast.

Because I think there’s no doubt that if Iran flies over Iraq, then we’ll be involved, this will get VERY big if the rumor is true.

Evil Riker!

Jonathan Frakes is older than I thought. Here he is now on Quincy as the evil murderer who’s attempting another murder to cover up the original crime.
